Kyrie Irving news? Wait a minute, BOSTON CELTICS NEWS?!
Your eyes are working correctly. Nice to have a break from post Super Bowl depression posts right?
In a nice break of news, Kyrie Irving and Marcus Morris traveled with the Celtics to Toronto where they will take on the Raptors later tonight. Kyrie Irving has been dealing with a bruised right thigh the past couple of games, and Marcus Morris literally broke his ass on a dunk against the Knicks.
It’s nice to have them back. Just in time too.
The Celtics have won four straight even with all of these injuries keeping key players out of the lineup. Still, this is a matchup of the top two teams in the Eastern Conference and I cannot believe I’m saying it AND meaning it.
Cleveland stinks. It’s now about the Celtics and the Raptors.
Kyrie coming back with fresh legs, and Marcus Morris providing offensive play off the bench just in time for this matchup is big. The Celtics play the Raptors 2 more times after tonight and that’s definitely going to sway who gets the 1 seed at the end of the season.
I’m really just excited to see Kyrie back in the lineup. I honestly think he could have come back before this matchup tonight. The good thing is that the Celtics keep on winning, so there is no rush. This provides a nice session of rest during the grind that is the NBA season.
Kyrie will have fresh legs tonight and I expect he’s going to come out dancing.
Greg Monroe Sighting?
I wanted to touch on this just a little bit. Greg Monroe is not going to play tonight and he’s probably not going to play until after the trade deadline.
The Celtics haven’t formally signed Monroe yet. Do not worry. He’s still coming to Boston. Right now the Celtics have an open roster spot and they don’t want to rush Greg Monroe onto their team because that open roster spot allows them to maintain flexibility at the trade deadline.
This means that the Celtics are actively pursuing deals at the deadline. It’s exciting for Celtics fans but we all know it’ll end with no deals being made and then Monroe will probably be the lone pickup heading into the playoffs. That’s how Danny Ainge rolls if he doesn’t get the return he’s looking for.
Celtics have a big challenge tonight, the Raptors are LEGIT and I think this one is going to be a nice preview of a potential playoff series.
