Remember when the Celtics were 0-2……..?
Neither do I.
Actually, scratch that. I do remember. I remember walking out of TD Garden with my Dad hearing all of these LOSERS saying that the season was lost and this team is just going to have a wasted year. I wrote about how stupid those people looked when the Celtics had won just a few games in a row.
NOW THEY ALL LOOK LIKE THE MOST IDIOTIC HUMANS ON THE PLANET AND I COULD NOT LOVE IT MORE.
Same Shit. Different Game.
The Celtics did their usual dance last night. They opened the first couple of possessions with a great offense and awesome ball movement. Then……….
Everything was put in the freezer.
The Celtics couldn’t hit anything for a stretch of the first quarter despite finishing that quarter shooting 47%. I think they’re shooting just looked worse because, on the flip side, Atlanta was hitting every single shot they took. Atlanta shot 65% from the floor and 57% from deep. Not quite the Celtics defense we are used to.
The C’s went down by as many as 16 points in the first-half… As per usual. Brad Stevens said that the Celtics can’t keep digging themselves into holes consistently, but I guess the team didn’t get that message yet because THERE THEY WERE. I think this and then the weird missing of free throws and layups is the most frustrating thing about this team.
Don’t get me wrong, I love it when they go down big and I don’t worry because I know they will come back… But I still think it’s a concern.
So they went down by 16 again… How did they come back and win this time?
Jaylen Brown is playing out of his mind right now. He is playing some of the most inspired basketball I have seen. It’s inappropriate to “compare” tragic losses and the inspiration that comes from them but there are similarities to Jaylen showing out right now to Isaiah Thomas doing the same last year during the playoffs.
Brown is flat out locked in.
27 points (CAREER-HIGH)
4-6 from deep
Jaylen made all the right plays last night and I couldn’t be happier for him. He is finding solace in the game of basketball.
STICK WITH THE YOUTH MOVEMENT
NEVER DOUBT DANNY AINGE EVER AGAIN! EVER!
14 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocks
Rookie. 19 years-old. The rest of the league is so screwed.
Marcus Smart and Marcus Morris, when playing well at the same time, is the most fun.
Marcus Morris continues to hit incredibly tough shots when the Celtics need them the most. For the second straight game, Morris was the savior during a time when the Celtics’ offense needed a big boost. Every game he is improving. When he was brought to Boston in the Avery Bradley trade, everyone just expected him to be the guy that would cover LeBron in the playoffs but his offensive game is so legit.
Marcus Smart had a rough game against Golden State, there’s no debating that. Last night though? He made some of the most impactful plays when it came to winning time. His defense all night long on Marco Belinelli was A++++ and that doesn’t show up in the box score.
Smart also had a gigantic offensive rebound that he put back in for two, then proceeded to draw a charge a couple of possessions later. This sequence in the fourth quarter will go overlooked but it was HUGE in closing this game out.
COMFY MASK KYRIE
Kyrie sported a newer mask last night. Mask 2.0 had tweaks to the eye-holes on them, making them bigger and Kyrie’s vision a lot better.
It certainly showed.
5-6 from deep
5-5 from the line
FILTHY. Kyrie was due for a stellar shooting performance and he gave it to us last night. His ability to close at the end of games is still just flat out incredible. At one point he took the Hawks 1 on 5 and still ended up at the free throw line for two shots.
ON TO THE NEXT ONE
The Celtics won this game simply by waking up and pulling their heads out of their asses. They fell behind early but they refuse to ever mail a game in. This team plays the hardest of any team in the NBA and weirdly enough just by TRYING YOUR HARDEST it wins you a lot of games in the Association… Who would’ve thunk?
So here we are… 15 in a row and still running a show. The Celtics just need to keep taking things one game at a time. Brad will clean up their turnovers, free throws, and hopefully this huge deficits early in games.
But honestly… can anyone really complain about this team right now?
NOPE. NO YOU CANNOT.
HIT ‘EM WITH IT! SEE YOU GUYS FOR DALLAS MONDAY NIGHT.
Suck it, Hawks*
