Josh McDaniels was officially named head coach of the Indianapolis Colts today…
The Patriots are moving forward without their offensive coordinator.
What’s that? Wait…
You have got to be kidding me.
I swear to God I’m going to have an actual heart attack.
Seriously, my heart can’t take it. We are TWO FREAKING DAYS removed from the Super Bowl loss and we have already had an entire off-season worth of drama. Everyone is going, people are somehow retiring in their prime, now people are staying. It’s just too much, man.
So there it is, Josh McDaniels and Bill Belichick are back in the saddle for another season together (for now).
I still can’t really believe it, and honestly, I have no idea what to think.
On one hand, as frustrating as it can be sometimes with the play calling of Josh McDaniels he does know what he’s doing and Tom Brady loves working with him. It’s nice to know that the chief play-caller is going to be back running the show on offense
Why I am nervous…
I just have no idea what to think about Bill Belichick right now.
I wrote earlier that I was so beyond confident Bill Belichick wasn’t going anywhere BECAUSE IF HE WAS GOING ANYWHERE then the Patriots do their best to hang onto Josh McDaniels so he can be next in line to succeed Bill.
See why I’m a little uneasy about this?
Curran says that Bill will be back, but everything has already been such a circus I have no idea what to believe anymore. At this point, I’m not going to be surprised if Belichick resigns tomorrow.
This whole thing is just nuts.
Even if Belichick does stick around for this season, this move just screams to me that he doesn’t want to stick around for many more seasons. McDaniels wouldn’t just stay in New England unless he knew he was going to get something great out of this. Giving up a head coaching job with an already good quarterback in place is hard to do.
It’s all just kind of crazy and I’m not sure what to make of it. Maybe Josh McDaniels just didn’t want to go work for Jim Irsay who is an actual psychopath? Perhaps, McDaniels felt Andrew Luck wasn’t going to get any better with his injury history and got cold feet?
I have zero idea.
All we do know is that Josh McDaniels is staying in New England… and this is where I tell you all to buckle up and grab some heart medication because the circus is just getting started.
